The basic sanitation system was originally designed for use by the Australian Defence Force (ADF) in remote, non serviced or disrupted areas.

Each chamber pack weighs approximately 15 Kg, so units can be installed quickly without the need for specialist equipment in any soil type including areas with high seasonal water tables.

Photo right shows the system installed in flooded trenches. The system was installed on reclaimed land during the wet season in Dili, East Timor, where the ground water was 300mm below the surface.

Each system chamber requires a hole approximately 600mm square and 1000mm deep. Chambers may be installed as close a 1 (one) metre to a building. Photo left shows a system installed between emergency UN accommodation buildings in Dili, East Timor.

Systems may remain in place indefinitely or be recovered (less the liner) for reuse.
